Don't Be Fooled by These Scams

If you do see something that looks suspicious, please let us know.
IADD has had several reports from members who have received spam emails from what appears to be IADD. They are not! With these emails are occurring with more regularity, IADD has created this page that we will update with the latest scams we are aware of. As a reminder, these are the things you can do to check if an email is spam:
- Verify email addresses. Even if the “From” section of your email says a familiar name, always check the email address. If it is not the one you recognize, it could be a scammer. Make sure to look carefully for misspellings as that could be the only identifier.
- Confirm by phone. If the sender is requesting funds or personal information pick up the phone and call the person directly to confirm. Or reach out to IADD staff.
- Do NOT reply to the message. If you reply to the message, it will verify that your email account is live and puts you at risk for future scams.
- Press Pause. Many of the emails sent will make it sound like an urgent matter and one that has to taken care of immediately. Take a moment to stop and think before acting. It could save you hundreds even thousands of dollars.
- Look it up. If the message includes a link or phone number do not click on it. Do a quick search online to look up the website or phone number to make sure it is legitimate.
- Additional red flags in scam emails are:
- generic terms (you or your company),
- a domain that is typically used for personal emails,
- grammatically incorrect language or
- a two-letter country code in the email address indicating it was not sent from a country with which you normally do business.
